Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Renuka Swamy. Swamy’s body was found in a drain in Bengaluru on June 9.
Swamy, who worked at a pharmacy, allegedly made offensive comments about a film actress on social media. Police are investigating whether Thoogudeepa was directly involved in the murder or played a part in planning it.
The actor was arrested at his farmhouse in Mysuru and brought to Bengaluru for questioning. Several other suspects have also been arrested.
The investigation is ongoing. Police have not released any information about the motive for the crime.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended two men smuggling marijuana on the Rajdhani Express at Secunderabad railway station on Saturday. Vikesh (25) and Akash Kumar (19), both construction workers from South Delhi, were arrested with a total of 34 kg of marijuana recovered from their luggage.
The seized drugs, estimated to be worth Rs 8.5 lakh, were cleverly hidden inside two trolleys. According to police officials, Vikesh and Akash had purchased the marijuana at a lower price from drug peddlers in Visakhapatnam agency areas, planning to sell it for a profit in Delhi.
The duo’s attempt to transport the illegal substance via train was thwarted by the vigilant GRP. Police are likely to investigate further to unearth the entire network of this operation.
Police in Cyberabad arrested K Ramesh (22), a resident of Moosapet originally from Siddipet district, on Tuesday night in Nacharam. They seized 320 grams of ganja and a motorbike from him.
Investigators believe Ramesh was obtaining ganja from someone named Raju in Cheriyal and then selling it to customers within Hyderabad.

C Venkata Subrahmanyam, director of M S Bhuvanteza Infra Projects Private Limited, was arrested by Hyderabad police on Monday for allegedly cheating nearly 400 people by promising to sell them flats in his projects. He is accused of collecting a total of Rs. 2.29 crores from them.
According to the police, Subrahmanyam collected the money on the pretext of selling flats in his projects, but failed to deliver on his promises. The Economic Offences Wing Team – IV of Hyderabad Detective Department registered a case against him based on a complaint and arrested him.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police have arrested four men from Gujarat for allegedly cheating people under the pretext of offering work-from-home data entry jobs. The accused, identified as Rahul Ashok Bhai Baviskar (25), Sagar Patil (24), Kalpesh Thorat (26), and Nilesh Patil (24), were apprehended based on a complaint filed by a victim who lost Rs. 6.5 lakh in the scam.
Modus Operandi:
Established Fake Company: Baviskar set up a bogus company named “Flora Solution” and lured job seekers online with promises of data entry jobs.
Recruited Accomplices: He enlisted Sagar Patil to assist him, while Thorat and Nilesh Patil provided bank accounts for the illegal transactions. Offered Fake Work & Extorted Money: Baviskar offered “captcha typing work” to victims and assured payment. After victims completed the work, he’d reject it, citing errors, and pressure them with fake legal notices demanding money for contract violations.
Nationwide Reach: The gang targeted job seekers across India, duping multiple victims with the same scheme.
Investigation & Arrest:
Following the victim’s complaint, police tracked down the accused in Gujarat and arrested them. During the raid, officers seized six mobile phones, a laptop, and five debit cards used in the operation.

Two Andhra Pradesh Policemen Arrested for Peddling Ganja near Hyderabad
Hyderabad: In a surprising turn of events, two policemen from the Andhra Pradesh Special Police were apprehended by the Balanagar Special Operations Team (SOT) on Friday morning while allegedly transporting 22 kg of Ganja in the Bachupally area on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The arrested individuals have been identified as a head constable and a constable from the third battalion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP). The Balanagar SOT acted upon received information and intercepted a car, only to discover the two policemen involved in the illegal transportation of narcotics.
According to preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the detained policemen were on leave, citing health reasons. However, instead of resting and recovering, they allegedly chose to engage in the illicit trade of Ganja, aiming to make some extra money.
The incident has raised concerns within the police department, as the very individuals entrusted with upholding the law were found violating it. Hyderabad Cybercrime Busts Fake Insurance Scheme: Two Arrested for Scamming Policyholders with Bogus Company
Hyderabad: Two guys in Hyderabad got caught by the Cybercrime police for tricking people with a fake insurance company. The arrested guys, Bellary Pavan Kumar (27) and Soudri Basavaraj (27) made up a company called ‘Chola MS General Insurance Company Limited’ and even set up a call center.
These guys got hold of a database from Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company and started reaching out to policyholders, telling them to renew their policies. The tricky part was that they gave bank account details to the victims and collected money from them.
The Additional CP (crimes) A V Ranganath explained, “The executives provided bank account details to the unsuspecting victims to pay the amount and collected the amount from them.”
After someone complained about this, the police took action and are now looking into the case.
Hyderabad Woman Murdered: Son and Daughter-in-law Arrested Over Property Dispute
A woman in Hyderabad, Suganamma (57), was tragically murdered by her son Anil and daughter-in-law Tirumala. They reportedly had a dispute over selling the house they lived in at Ramanthapur, which belonged to Suganamma.
