State Orders Special Officers for Gram Panchayats

State Government Directs Appointment of Special Officers for Gram Panchayats as Sarpanches’ Term Ends

 

Hyderabad: As the term of Sarpanches concludes today, the State Government has issued directives to District Collectors to appoint Special Officers, persons in charge, or committees to oversee the functions of Gram Panchayats until new members and Sarpanches are elected by the people. The decision was formalized through Government Order in the form of GOMs 5 on Wednesday.

District Collectors are instructed to designate officers of the rank of Tahsildar, Mandal Parishad Development Officer, Agriculture Officer, Mandal Educational Officer, Mandal Panchayat Officer, or officers of similar rank, effective from Friday.

The designated officers or committees are tasked with carrying out the responsibilities of the Gram Panchayats during the interim period until the assumption of new elected members and Sarpanches. Special Officers are urged to assume their roles promptly.

Responding to the conclusion of Sarpanches’ terms, BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed gratitude to those who served the public for the past five years. He emphasized that retiring Sarpanches were stepping down from their post, not from public service. Rao acknowledged their significant contributions, particularly under the leadership of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, in establishing nurseries, Palle Prakruthi Vanams, and Vaikuntha Dhamams, setting a benchmark for the nation.

Despite this, there are calls from the Sarpanches Association and certain political parties urging the State Government to conduct elections. They object to the appointment of Special Officers. The CPM State unit, in a representation to the State government, demanded immediate elections, opposing the plans to appoint Special Officers instead of elected bodies. CPM State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram insisted that holding Panchayat elections promptly is crucial to ensure the continuity of governing bodies elected by the people.

HYDERABAD, INDIA – In a bid to woo minority voters, BRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that his government will set up a special Information Technology park for minority youths near Hyderabad if they are voted to power again in the upcoming elections.

Addressing a rally at Maheshwaram, Rao said that his government treats Muslims and Hindus as two eyes and takes everyone along. He pointed out that his government has taken several steps to uplift the minority community, including providing pensions, opening residential schools, and spending Rs 12,000 crore towards minority development during the past 10 years.

He also asserted that Telangana is a peaceful state with no law and order issues and that his government has implemented several schemes for the welfare of farmers, including providing 24 hours of free power and the Rythu Bandhu investment support scheme.

“If the BRS is voted to power again, not only will the Rythu Bandhu scheme be continued, but the amount under it would be increased to Rs 16,000 gradually from the existing Rs 10,000 per annum,” Rao said.

He also criticized the Congress party, accusing them of saying that they would give power only for three hours and that the Dharani (an integrated land administration portal) would be dumped in the Bay of Bengal. “The Congress’s move may result in the resumption of the middlemen regime,” he said.

Rao urged the people to think and make a decision as to whom they should vote, saying that the vote would change the future of the state for the next five years.

Warangal East Constituency to See Increase in Polling Stations

Warangal: In preparation for the upcoming elections in Warangal East Constituency, Telangana, election officials have announced that 15 additional polling stations will be established, bringing the total number of polling stations to 230. This expansion is in response to a substantial increase in the number of eligible voters in the constituency, from 2,11,084 in the previous election to 2,46,367 in the recently released voter list from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The ECI has also granted approval for the creation of special polling centers to encourage higher voter turnout among different demographics. Specifically, five special polling centers designed for women voters will be set up in the constituency, in addition to a special polling center for disabled voters at polling station number 186 in Karimabad. Polling Stations 33, 70, 99, 124, and 150 have been recognized as model polling centers, and Centre number 22 of CKM College has been designated as a special polling station for young voters.

To streamline election administration, the polling centers in the Warangal East constituency have been organized into 17 sectors, each comprising 12 to 14 polling centers and overseen by a designated Sectorial Officer. These officers have already conducted thorough inspections of the polling centers and submitted reports on facilities, such as the presence of ramps, access to drinking water, separate restroom facilities for men and women, and electrification. Proposals for necessary arrangements have been made based on the Election Commission’s directives, with particular attention given to addressing issues in problematic or previously violent polling stations.

Four flying squads and two video surveillance teams have also been established in the Warangal East Constituency to ensure enforcement of the election code of conduct and videography of the election process.

Siddipet, Telangana: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has condemned the knife attack on BRS candidate Kotha Prabhakar Reddy in Siddipet district on October 30, 2023.

The Governor called the attack “dangerous to the democratic process” and directed the Director General of Police to take strict measures to investigate and ensure the security of contesting candidates and campaigners during the elections.

“Violence has no place in democracy,” Tamilisai said in a statement. I urge all political parties and their supporters to maintain a peaceful and secure environment for free and fair elections.

Tamilisai also wished Prabhakar Reddy a speedy recovery.

Governor Angry Over Attack

In a separate statement, Tamilisai expressed her anger over the attack.

I am shocked and angry to learn about the knife attack on BRS candidate Kotha Prabhakar Reddy,” Tamilisai said. “This is a cowardly act of violence that has no place in our democracy.”

Tamilisai said that she was “monitoring the situation closely” and that she would “take all necessary steps to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice.”

Police Investigation Underway

The police have launched an investigation into the attack on Prabhakar Reddy.

According to the police, Prabhakar Reddy was attacked by a group of unidentified men while he was campaigning in Siddipet district. He was stabbed in the chest and abdomen and was rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad.

The police have said that they are investigating all possible angles to the attack and that they will arrest the perpetrators soon.
