SC Categorization Panel Will Not Delay Sub-Categorization Issue: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: State BJP President G Kishan Reddy on Monday clarified that the special task force announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the issue of sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes was not intended to delay the process but rather to expedite it.

Responding to criticism from various political parties, Reddy asserted that the task force differed from a commission or committee. He emphasized that the Supreme Court would closely monitor the task force’s progress, ensuring swift action on this long-pending matter.

Reddy attributed the delay in resolving the SC categorization issue to the inaction of the previous Congress government. Despite the recommendations of the Justice Usha Mehra Commission, constituted by the UPA government, the Congress did not take any concrete steps towards sub-categorization.

He expressed confidence that the special task force, under the watchful eye of the Supreme Court, would effectively address the concerns of the Scheduled Castes and ensure their equitable representation.

Telangana IT Minister accuses PM Modi of misleading public

Telangana’s IT Minister KT Rama Rao has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading the public with his promise to form a committee to empower the Madiga community, a Scheduled Caste group in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Rama Rao also asserted that the BJP is not a serious contender in the upcoming Telangana assembly elections.

Rama Rao’s criticism comes in response to Modi’s announcement at a rally organized by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) that a committee would be formed to explore ways to empower the Madiga community. However, Rama Rao contends that the formation of yet another committee is a delaying tactic and that the government should simply implement the resolution passed by the Telangana Assembly in favor of categorizing Scheduled Castes.

Rama Rao further dismissed the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming Telangana elections, stating that the party is not a significant player in the state. His comments are likely to intensify the political rivalry between the ruling BRS party and the BJP ahead of the polls.

The issue of categorizing Scheduled Castes has been a long-standing demand of the Madiga community. The Telangana Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution in support of categorization, and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also submitted a memorandum to PM Modi on the matter. However, the central government has so far not taken any concrete action on the issue.

Rama Rao’s accusations and the ongoing political debate surrounding the issue of categorizing Scheduled Castes highlight the complex social and political dynamics in Telangana. The resolution of this issue is likely to have a significant impact on the state’s Scheduled Caste population.
