Milk Van Masquerades as Liquor Mule: Three Held in Chittoor Smuggling Bust

Chittoor police intercepted a seemingly ordinary milk van at the Iruvaram checkpost on Saturday, only to discover a well-disguised liquor smuggling operation beneath the surface. Acting swiftly, the Chittoor Urban Police and Special Enforcement Bureau apprehended three individuals involved in the illegal transport of alcohol from neighboring Karnataka.

The van, valued at Rs. 6 lakh, harbored a hidden stash of liquor bottles cleverly concealed beneath the milk cans. Upon seizing the contraband, authorities estimated the liquor’s worth to be Rs. 2 lakh 82 thousand.

The accused, identified as Ramesh, Suresh, and Rajesh, all residents of Chittoor district, readily confessed to their intention of selling the smuggled liquor at inflated prices within the district,” shared Chittoor DSP Ramana.

Facing charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Andhra Pradesh Excise Act, the trio now await further investigation. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lengths individuals go to in attempting to circumvent established regulations while highlighting the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in tackling such illegal activities.

Hyderabad: The New IT Capital of India?

Hyderabad Poses Challenge to Bengaluru’s IT Hub Status: Former Infosys CEO

In a surprising turn of events, former Infosys CEO and Chairman of Manipal Global Education, TV Mohandas Pai, suggested on Wednesday that Hyderabad could potentially replace Bengaluru as the “Information Technology capital of India.” Pai, in his statement, criticized the successive governments of Karnataka for their ‘neglect’ and warned the Karnataka government about the impending shift.

Expressing his concerns on a social media platform, Pai hoped for a more proactive approach from the Karnataka government, particularly under the leadership of Siddaramaiah from the Congress party.

Responding to Pai’s post, many users echoed his sentiments, agreeing that it might indeed dethrone Bengaluru as the country’s IT capital. Several comments commended Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao for his role in elevating Hyderabad’s status as a burgeoning IT powerhouse.

One user, with the handle @vigytweets, remarked, “If BRS Wins definitely… if Congress wins in Telangana, Hyderabad will be gone to dogs in real estate and IT growth. The current Hyderabad growth and planning is because of KTR. BJP is nowhere in race in Telangana so no use of talking about them.

Another user, @RaviGAk, expressed the likelihood of this shift, stating, “In all probabilities, it is going to happen. Unless the government thinks innovatively and acts at lightning speed.”

Expressing a desire for similar IT growth in every state, user @ShivaRa51310785 commented, “I wish there is one such Hyderabad in every state. This is something to be celebrated and proud.”

Meanwhile, a user identified as @thereal_ravan criticized the successive Karnataka governments as corrupt, saying, “Being a proud Bengalurean!! I admit Our corrupt Govts have messed up this amazing city!! HYD will grow & is growing rapidly, no doubt! One day HYD will dethrone BLR for sure, its a harsh FACT! My hope is, BLR shud be a union territory & b saved from these corrupt politicians!”

Summing up the sentiment, @Sumita61 noted, “Bangalore has already been dethroned by Hyderabad in the hardware space.”

Telangana Minister Niranjan Reddy slams Rahul Gandhi’s corruption allegations

Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy ridicules Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of Rs 1 lakh crore corruption in Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad, October 19, 2023: Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy on Thursday ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of Rs 1 lakh crore corruption in the implementation of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Addressing a news conference, Reddy said Gandhi’s allegations smacked of sheer ignorance of the development that had taken place in the state. He said Gandhi was trying to accuse the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of corruption in the implementation of a project that involved far less as its estimated cost.

Reddy also hit out at Gandhi for his remarks against the loan waiver implemented by the BRS government in the state. He said the government had facilitated waiver of over Rs 13,000 crore benefiting about 23 lakh farmers. He said the Congress leadership had lost its credibility and cannot make the people of Telangana believe about its guarantees.

The promises made by the Congress party in Karnataka were thrown already to winds,” Reddy said.

Reddy’s response comes after Gandhi alleged at a rally in Telangana on Wednesday that the Kaleshwaram project was a “scam” and that the BRS government had pocketed Rs 1 lakh crore in corruption.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is a massive irrigation project that was completed in 2019 at a cost of Rs 1 lakh crore. The project was launched by the BRS government to irrigate over 18 lakh acres of land in the state.
