While celebrating this achievement, Collector Satpathy emphasized the need for sustained efforts. She urged bankers to:

Hyderabad Braces for Unusually Warm Makar Sankranti

Hyderabad Swaps Bonfires for Breezers: Unusually Warm Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti, a festival traditionally associated with bonfires and winter chills, is taking an unexpected turn in Hyderabad this year. The city is bracing for unusually warm weather, with temperatures significantly higher than the typical winter norms.

A Stark Contrast to the Past

Residents are accustomed to bundling up during Makar Sankranti, which marks the sun’s entry into the Capricorn zodiac sign. However, the past few days have seen above-average maximum and minimum temperatures, and meteorologists predict this trend will continue for the next five days.

IMD’s Forecast: Hot and Misty

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts an average minimum temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius over the next five days, with highs exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. This is a significant departure from the usual Makar Sankranti weather, which is typically marked by chilly mornings and pleasant afternoons.

Saturday’s Scorcher Sets the Tone

On Saturday, Hyderabad experienced a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius, surpassing the typical mark of 16.2 degrees Celsius. The day remained hot and humid, with a maximum temperature of 30.7 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 75%.

Similar Conditions Expected in Neighboring Districts

The unusual warmth is not limited to Hyderabad. Neighboring districts are also expected to experience above-average temperatures for the next five days.

What Does This Mean for Makar Sankranti Celebrations?

The unusually warm weather may dampen some of the traditional Makar Sankranti festivities. Bonfires, a popular way to ward off the winter chill, may be less appealing in the current conditions. However, residents can still enjoy other aspects of the festival, such as kite flying and feasting on traditional sweets.

Possible Reasons for the Warmth

The exact reasons for the unusual warmth are still being studied by meteorologists. However, it is likely that a combination of factors, such as El Niño and changes in atmospheric circulation patterns, are playing a role.

Impact on Agriculture and Public Health

The warm weather may have implications for agriculture and public health. Farmers may need to adjust their planting schedules, and people should take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.

Overall, the unusually warm Makar Sankranti in Hyderabad is a reminder of the changing climate. While it may disrupt some traditional festivities, it is also an opportunity to adapt and find new ways to celebrate this important festival.

Revanth Reddy Sworn In as Telangana’s Second Chief Minister, Marking a New Era for the State

Hyderabad, December 5, 2023: In a historic ceremony held today, Anumula Revanth Reddy was sworn in as the second Chief Minister of Telangana, ushering in a new chapter for the young state. His ascension to power marks a significant shift in the political landscape, with the Congress party returning to the helm after a gap of nine years.

Reddy, a firebrand leader known for his sharp wit and political acumen, takes over the reins from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s K Chandrashekar Rao, who dominated the state’s politics for the past eight years. The Congress’s emphatic victory in the recent assembly elections, coupled with Reddy’s personal triumph in defeating Rao from his own bastion of Kamareddy, has propelled him to the forefront of Telangana’s political scene.

Thousands of jubilant Congress supporters thronged the swearing-in ceremony, their cheers echoing through the halls as Reddy took oath in Telugu, vowing to serve the people with dedication and justice. In his inaugural address, he outlined his vision for a prosperous and inclusive Telangana, focusing on key areas such as:

Boosting economic growth and creating jobs: Reddy emphasized attracting investments and fostering entrepreneurship to generate employment opportunities for the youth.

Strengthening agriculture and rural development: He pledged to prioritize irrigation projects, provide remunerative prices for farmers, and improve rural infrastructure.

Enhancing education and healthcare: Upgrading educational institutions, ensuring quality healthcare access for all, and promoting skill development were central to his promises.

Empowering women and marginalized communities: He highlighted his commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting tribal rights, and addressing the concerns of minorities.

Reddy’s ascension has sparked a wave of hope and optimism across Telangana. His youthful energy, coupled with his experience and comprehensive vision, has resonated with the people, who are eager to see a fresh approach to governance. However, he faces several challenges, from inheriting a state with a burgeoning debt burden to tackling unemployment and social disparities.

Telangana Minister Niranjan Reddy slams Rahul Gandhi’s corruption allegations

Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy ridicules Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of Rs 1 lakh crore corruption in Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad, October 19, 2023: Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy on Thursday ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of Rs 1 lakh crore corruption in the implementation of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Addressing a news conference, Reddy said Gandhi’s allegations smacked of sheer ignorance of the development that had taken place in the state. He said Gandhi was trying to accuse the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of corruption in the implementation of a project that involved far less as its estimated cost.

Reddy also hit out at Gandhi for his remarks against the loan waiver implemented by the BRS government in the state. He said the government had facilitated waiver of over Rs 13,000 crore benefiting about 23 lakh farmers. He said the Congress leadership had lost its credibility and cannot make the people of Telangana believe about its guarantees.

The promises made by the Congress party in Karnataka were thrown already to winds,” Reddy said.

Reddy’s response comes after Gandhi alleged at a rally in Telangana on Wednesday that the Kaleshwaram project was a “scam” and that the BRS government had pocketed Rs 1 lakh crore in corruption.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is a massive irrigation project that was completed in 2019 at a cost of Rs 1 lakh crore. The project was launched by the BRS government to irrigate over 18 lakh acres of land in the state.
