Dr. Abby Philips, also known as TheLiverDoc on social media, has apologized to actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu but harshly criticized her doctors, calling them “businessmen” and “frauds.”
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who has been open about her Myositis diagnosis since 2022, recently advised her followers to use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water for common viral infections instead of taking unnecessary pills. This advice raised concerns among medical professionals, including Dr. Abby Philips.
Dr. Philips criticized Samantha’s suggestion, calling it dangerous and not approved by health authorities. Samantha responded on Instagram, acknowledging the concerns but defending her intention to help others.
On Saturday, Dr. Philips apologized to Samantha but strongly criticized her doctors, Mitra Basu Chillar and Dr. Jockers, accusing them of promoting dubious treatments like ozone therapy and IV vitamin therapy, which he claims are ineffective and potentially harmful.
I have been fighting medical/health misinformation for the longest time and it just does not seem to end. I have come to understand that the only way to fight medical misinformation is to consistently speak about it and make examples of people who mislead and misinform.
Dr. Philips also addressed Samantha’s response to his initial criticism, calling her a “serial offender” for endorsing unscientific and baseless alternative medicine therapies. He urged her to delete the harmful post and apologize to her followers, vowing not to comment on her future endorsements of alternative healthcare advice.
Telangana’s C-Sections Rates: Urgent Steps Needed to Reduce Unnecessary Surgeries
Telangana is leading the country in the number of C-section deliveries, according to the National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-20). In cities, 65% of pregnancies, and in rural areas, 59% of pregnancies result in C-sections.
In Hyderabad, it’s crucial for the Health Department to take action to maintain important health measures like Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), and C-section rates.
We need to build on existing efforts to control these rates and focus on reducing unnecessary C-sections, which have become a common practice among families. This requires continuous effort and long-term planning.
The previous government started various initiatives to tackle this issue. Recently, there has been progress in encouraging pregnant women to use government hospitals for delivery and promoting the importance of safe natural births.
In October 2021, 61.41% of deliveries in both private and government hospitals were C-sections. However, by October 2022, this decreased to 54.49%, showing a 7% drop.
Efforts have also been made to provide additional support, such as midwives and educational programs for pregnant women. These include teaching simple exercises and counseling sessions to raise awareness about the benefits of natural delivery.
Revanth Reddy Sworn In as Telangana’s Second Chief Minister, Marking a New Era for the State
Hyderabad, December 5, 2023: In a historic ceremony held today, Anumula Revanth Reddy was sworn in as the second Chief Minister of Telangana, ushering in a new chapter for the young state. His ascension to power marks a significant shift in the political landscape, with the Congress party returning to the helm after a gap of nine years.
Reddy, a firebrand leader known for his sharp wit and political acumen, takes over the reins from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s K Chandrashekar Rao, who dominated the state’s politics for the past eight years. The Congress’s emphatic victory in the recent assembly elections, coupled with Reddy’s personal triumph in defeating Rao from his own bastion of Kamareddy, has propelled him to the forefront of Telangana’s political scene.
Revanth Reddy is the 2nd Chief Minister of Telangana State.
Thousands of jubilant Congress supporters thronged the swearing-in ceremony, their cheers echoing through the halls as Reddy took oath in Telugu, vowing to serve the people with dedication and justice. In his inaugural address, he outlined his vision for a prosperous and inclusive Telangana, focusing on key areas such as:
Boosting economic growth and creating jobs: Reddy emphasized attracting investments and fostering entrepreneurship to generate employment opportunities for the youth.
Strengthening agriculture and rural development: He pledged to prioritize irrigation projects, provide remunerative prices for farmers, and improve rural infrastructure.
Enhancing education and healthcare: Upgrading educational institutions, ensuring quality healthcare access for all, and promoting skill development were central to his promises.
Eradicating corruption and ensuring transparency: Reddy vowed to implement stringent measures to combat graft and establish a clean and accountable administration.
Empowering women and marginalized communities: He highlighted his commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting tribal rights, and addressing the concerns of minorities.
Reddy’s ascension has sparked a wave of hope and optimism across Telangana. His youthful energy, coupled with his experience and comprehensive vision, has resonated with the people, who are eager to see a fresh approach to governance. However, he faces several challenges, from inheriting a state with a burgeoning debt burden to tackling unemployment and social disparities.
Only time will tell how Reddy navigates these challenges and fulfills his promises. Nevertheless, his inauguration as the second Chief Minister of Telangana marks a significant turning point, and his leadership will undoubtedly shape the state’s future trajectory.
Architect narrowly avoids life-threatening complications after self-medicating with internet-sourced antibiotics
Hyderabad: A woman architect in Secunderabad narrowly avoided life-threatening kidney complications after taking antibiotics prescribed by her father, who researched her symptoms online. Doctors at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) treated the patient for a severe kidney infection and the formation of stone-like structures called matrix in her kidneys, all stemming from self-medication.
Dr. Raghavendra Kulkarni, a Urologist at AINU, explained that the patient’s reliance on internet-based diagnoses and incomplete antibiotic courses led to antibiotic resistance and the formation of matrix, a potentially life-threatening condition. Despite having undergone surgery for kidney stones 18 months ago, the patient opted for self-treatment instead of seeking professional advice for recurring symptoms.
The patient’s condition required intervention at AINU, where doctors initially diverted the blocked urine before removing the stones surgically. Post-surgery, the patient revealed a history of taking antibiotics for UTI symptoms but consistently stopping courses midway.
Dr. Kulkarni emphasized the importance of avoiding self-prescription and completing prescribed antibiotic courses, highlighting the potentially severe consequences of such actions.

Telangana Govt Hospitals See Record Increase in Patient Inflow After Infrastructure Upgrade
HYDERABAD: Improved medical infrastructure in Telangana districts has led to a record increase in patient inflow to government hospitals, with nearly 17 lakh patients availing of inpatient facilities in 2022 compared to 14 lakh in 2021.
The state government’s efforts to upgrade community health centers into Area Hospitals, add Basthi Dawakhanas in urban and Palle Dawakhanas in rural regions, bolster manpower requirements, strengthen diagnostic laboratories, and establish new medical colleges have turned out to be quite effective in decentralizing government healthcare services.
