Offered Fake Work & Extorted Money: Baviskar offered “captcha typing work” to victims and assured payment. After victims completed the work, he’d reject it, citing errors, and pressure them with fake legal notices demanding money for contract violations.
Nationwide Reach: The gang targeted job seekers across India, duping multiple victims with the same scheme.

Investigation & Arrest:

Following the victim’s complaint, police tracked down the accused in Gujarat and arrested them. During the raid, officers seized six mobile phones, a laptop, and five debit cards used in the operation.

While the body’s immune system can eliminate some HPV infections, high-risk types like HPV 16 and HPV 18 can increase the risk of cervical cancer.

Common symptoms of cervical cancer include unusual vaginal bleeding, post-coital bleeding, bleeding between periods or after menopause, and pelvic pain during intercourse. Detecting cervical cancer can be done through a pap test, which can identify cancer cells or abnormal cells that may become cancerous. Screening should begin as early as 21 to 29 years, with intervals of three to five years based on results.

Cervical cancer is preventable and curable, especially if detected early. Vaccination against HPV is a crucial preventive measure, and India’s first HPV vaccine, Cervavac, targeting four types of HPV infections, was launched in January 2023.

Treatment options for cervical cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. In an effort to promote prevention, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during the Budget 2024-25 speech that the government encourages vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 against cervical cancer.

Inspector B Durga Rao, suspended and accused of favoring former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir’s son Raheel Aamir, has sought anticipatory bail from the Telangana High Court. The police officer is accused of assisting the prime accused under the influence of another Nizamabad Police inspector, also implicated in the case.

Various charges under the IPC, Motor Vehicle Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act have been registered. Durga Rao claims that media pressure and political influence led to his implication as an accused even before an investigation. The case may be taken up in the next two working days of the court.

State Orders Special Officers for Gram Panchayats

State Government Directs Appointment of Special Officers for Gram Panchayats as Sarpanches’ Term Ends

 

Hyderabad: As the term of Sarpanches concludes today, the State Government has issued directives to District Collectors to appoint Special Officers, persons in charge, or committees to oversee the functions of Gram Panchayats until new members and Sarpanches are elected by the people. The decision was formalized through Government Order in the form of GOMs 5 on Wednesday.

District Collectors are instructed to designate officers of the rank of Tahsildar, Mandal Parishad Development Officer, Agriculture Officer, Mandal Educational Officer, Mandal Panchayat Officer, or officers of similar rank, effective from Friday.

The designated officers or committees are tasked with carrying out the responsibilities of the Gram Panchayats during the interim period until the assumption of new elected members and Sarpanches. Special Officers are urged to assume their roles promptly.

Responding to the conclusion of Sarpanches’ terms, BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed gratitude to those who served the public for the past five years. He emphasized that retiring Sarpanches were stepping down from their post, not from public service. Rao acknowledged their significant contributions, particularly under the leadership of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, in establishing nurseries, Palle Prakruthi Vanams, and Vaikuntha Dhamams, setting a benchmark for the nation.

Despite this, there are calls from the Sarpanches Association and certain political parties urging the State Government to conduct elections. They object to the appointment of Special Officers. The CPM State unit, in a representation to the State government, demanded immediate elections, opposing the plans to appoint Special Officers instead of elected bodies. University Grants Commission (UGC): In a recent meeting led by UGC Chairman Prof M Jagadesh Kumar to discuss the implementation of NEP 2020, it was highlighted that all Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) need to seek recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The UGC plans to issue advisories to HEIs, urging them to apply for recognition within a specified timeframe. Prof Kumar emphasized the importance of institutions becoming centers of excellence and suggested that regulatory authorities should play a facilitating role. Additionally, he stressed the effective use of technology in teaching and learning, as well as the inclusion of an Indian Knowledge System module in all disciplines.

To address issues related to Deemed-to-be Universities and Private Universities, the UGC will form a monitoring committee, including representatives from relevant regulators as per the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee. Furthermore, recognition will be given to HEIs that provide facilities for persons with disabilities, following RCI guidelines in NAAC accreditation criteria.

The UGC has also requested regulatory authorities to reach out to industrial organizations associated with them, asking them to nominate industry personnel to register on the UGC’s professor of practice portal. The meeting included officials from various regulatory bodies, such as NMC, the Veterinary Council of India, AICTE, PCI, the Dental Council of India, the Council of Architecture, NCTE, ICAR, the Rehabilitation Council of India, NAAC, and NIRF.
