Telangana DGP Suspended for Meeting with TPCC President

HYDERABAD, India – Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar was suspended today by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for violating the model code of conduct.

Kumar met with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy at his residence yesterday, while the counting of votes for the Telangana Legislative Assembly election was still underway. The visit raised eyebrows as the Congress had already established a clear lead in the election.

The ECI considered Kumar’s meeting with Reddy to be a violation of the model code of conduct, which prohibits government officials from engaging in activities that could be seen as favoring a particular political party.

In addition to suspending Kumar, the ECI has also issued show-cause notices to Additional DG Law and Order, Sanjay Jain, and ADG CID, Mahesh Bhagwat, who accompanied Kumar to Reddy’s residence.

The ECI’s decision is a significant development in the Telangana election, as it raises questions about the impartiality of the state police force. The Congress party has welcomed the ECI’s decision, while the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party has condemned it.

Owaisi slams BJP for revoking suspension of MLA Raja Singh

Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for revoking the suspension of its Telangana MLA T Raja Singh.

Owaisi tweeted, “Hate speech is the fastest way to a promotion in Modi’s BJP.”

Singh was suspended from the BJP in August last year for his alleged derogatory comments on prophet Mohammed. He was arrested under the Preventive Detention Act, but was released on bail in November.

The BJP leadership revoked Singh’s suspension on Sunday, considering his explanation in response to the show cause notice served by the party earlier.

Singh will be contesting from the Goshamahal Assembly seat in the upcoming Telangana Legislative Assembly elections on November 30.
