Telangana women eligible for ‘Maha Lakshmi Free Bus’ scheme with valid ID; ‘Zero Ticket’ to be issued
Hyderabad: Good news for women and the third gender in Telangana! The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has introduced the ‘Maha Lakshmi Free Bus’ scheme. This means eligible women from Telangana can now travel for free on City Ordinary, Express, Metro Express, and Palle Velugu buses.
The Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, will officially launch the scheme at 1:30 pm on Saturday from the State Assembly premises. After the launch, women ministers and MLAs are expected to hop on these buses.
To benefit from this free bus service, women need to be residents of Telangana and should carry valid ID cards with their addresses. These eligible women will then be issued a ‘Zero Ticket,’ allowing them to travel without any cost.
Importantly, there’s no limit on the distance these women can travel within the state. However, for interstate travel, the free scheme applies only up to the state borders. The initiative aims to make transportation more accessible for women in Telangana.

UP Board Announces 2024 Exam Dates and Notable Drop in Registrations
Allahabad, December 7, 2023: The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has released the schedule for the 10th and 12th board exams in 2024. The exams are set to kick off on February 22, 2024, and wrap up on March 9, 2024. However, there’s been a drop in the number of students registering for the exams compared to last year, with a total of 55,08,206 students signing up.
Here’s a quick rundown of the exam schedule:
– Class 10: February 22 to March 9, 2024
– Class 12: February 22 to March 9, 2024
Practical exams for Class 12 will be split into two phases:
– Phase 1: January 25 to February 1, 2024 – Phase 2: February 2 to February 9, 2024
Let’s explore why there’s been a decline in student numbers:
1. Demographic Shift: Uttar Pradesh is seeing fewer births, resulting in a smaller pool of potential exam takers.
2. Increased Migration: More people moving to urban areas within the state may be affecting student enrollment in rural schools.
3. Alternative Education Options: Students are increasingly opting for alternative pathways like skill development programs and vocational courses.
4. *Private School Preference: Parents shifting their kids to private schools, which often have their own exams, could be a factor.
While the exact reasons aren’t confirmed, it’s clear that UPMSP needs to tackle these issues. Strategies may include improving education quality, offering scholarships, and creating a more flexible and inclusive system.
The UP Board exams play a vital role in shaping students’ futures, so it’s crucial for UPMSP to adapt to changing trends and demographics. This ensures every student gets a fair shot at success through quality education.

Gorakhpur Municipal Body Contemplates Shift from ‘India’ to ‘Bharat’ on Official Letterhead
Gorakhpur: In a significant move, the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation (GMC) executive committee is considering replacing the term ‘India’ with ‘Bharat’ on its official letterhead. Gorakhpur, the constituency of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, could become the first municipal body in Uttar Pradesh to adopt ‘Bharat’ if the proposal gains approval.
Gorakhpur Mayor, Manglesh Srivastav, revealed that the proposal would be presented to the GMC board during its upcoming meeting for further discussion. He emphasized that the name ‘Bharat’ has historical roots, dating back to ancient times, while ‘India’ was introduced by British rulers.
“The time has come to remove the symbol of colonial slavery,” Mayor Srivastav stated.
Ajay Rai, a BJP corporator, mentioned unanimous agreement among members regarding the proposal. Mannu Jaiswal, another BJP corporator, pointed out that the call for using ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India’ was raised by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2014 during his tenure as Gorakhpur MP.
Ziaul Islam, a Samajwadi Party corporator, expressed no objection, citing the constitutional provision that recognizes both terms as per “India that is Bharat.”
This move follows a broader national debate earlier this year when the G20 dinner invitations referred to President Draupadi Murmu as the “President of Bharat” instead of the usual “President of India.” Moreover, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural address at the G20 Summit, the nameplate displayed “Bharat” instead of “India.
As the discussion around ‘India’ versus ‘Bharat’ gains momentum, Prime Minister Modi had previously urged his ministerial colleagues to steer clear of the political row, highlighting that ‘Bharat’ is the country’s ancient name. The outcome of the GMC’s decision is eagerly awaited, as it could set a precedent for other municipalities in the state.

The Kinnerasani project in Paloncha Mandal had to lift two gates to release 8,000 cusecs of excess water downstream. A similar situation unfolded at the Peddavagu project in Gummadavalli village of Aswaraopet mandal.
A breach in the bund of the Perantala tank at Dammapet mandal headquarters inundated paddy fields, affecting standing crops across thousands of acres. The rainwater standing in agricultural fields has brought coal production in SCCL opencast mines to a halt.
Vehicular movements have been severely impacted, with Superintendent for Police Dr. Vineeth G stating that several roads in Dammapet, Aswaraopet, Sujatha Nagar, Julurpad, Aswapuram, and Mulakalapalli mandals are restricted due to overflowing rainwater. Earlier reports from the Greater Chennai Police indicated six deaths in connection with the Michaung cyclone. The Arumbakkam area remained waterlogged, and traffic disruptions were reported on various roads, with waterlogging reaching at least one foot.
DDRT Teams collaborated with the Government and Highways Department to clear major waterlogged areas. Government Takes Swift Action: Blocks Over 100 Websites in Crackdown on Illegal Investments and Job Frauds
Over 100 websites have been blocked by the Indian government for aiding organized illegal investments and fraudulent part-time job schemes. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), part of the Union Home Ministry, identified and recommended the blocking of these websites through its National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU).
These websites, mostly run by foreign entities, targeted retired individuals, women, and unemployed youth seeking part-time employment. Operated through digital advertisements, chat messengers, and rented accounts, these platforms facilitated organized illegal investments related to economic crimes.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) utilized its authority under the Information Technology Act, of 2000, to block these websites. The economic frauds conducted on these platforms involved laundering proceeds out of India through methods like card networks, cryptocurrencies, overseas ATM withdrawals, and international Fintech companies.
The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) is a Home Ministry initiative to address cyber crimes in a coordinated manner. Citizens are urged to report phone numbers and social media handles used by fraudsters through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
The fraudulent schemes typically began with targeted digital advertisements on platforms like Google and Meta, using keywords like “Ghar baithe job” (work from home) and “Ghar baithe kamai kaise karen” (how to earn from home). Victims were then engaged through WhatsApp or Telegram, convinced to perform tasks for commissions, and eventually duped into making larger investments.
As a precaution, citizens are advised to exercise caution before investing in high-commission online schemes. Financial transactions with unknown individuals on WhatsApp or Telegram should be avoided without proper verification. Checking the source of initial commissions and verifying the name of the receiver in UPI Apps is recommended to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
The government emphasizes refraining from transactions with unknown accounts to prevent involvement in money laundering, terror financing, and potential legal consequences, according to the statement.
