Cybercrime Scam Busted in Hyderabad, 4 Arrested

Hyderabad: Cybercrime Police Bust Online Betting Scam, Arrest 4 Influencers

The Cyberabad Police have busted an online betting scam run through Telegram and illegal websites. Four social media influencers were arrested for promoting the scam and helping the gang cheat people.

The arrested individuals are Chinnamsetti Naga Rakesh, Pottavathini Deepak, Guguloth Sri Ram Naik, and Hemanth Kumar.

According to the police, the gang used fake Telegram channels to promise users “fixed match” tips and “insider information.” They lured people—mostly young users—through ads and influencer promotions. Once interested, users were asked to join private Telegram groups and download special betting apps or register through links and codes shared by influencers.

Victims deposited money through UPI, IMPS, or NEFT into fake bank accounts. These accounts were opened using forged Aadhaar and PAN details to bypass ID checks. Some of the money was even converted into cryptocurrency to avoid tracking.

The fraud came to light after a man from Miyapur lost ₹50 lakh, and his friend lost ₹60 lakh in the scam. The police said the gang made some small payouts to gain trust, but blocked large withdrawals.

Influencers promoting the scam earned 1–3% commission on every bet and were also paid monthly. Some influencers made between ₹25 lakh and ₹80 lakh.

The gang ran the scam from 2019 to 2025, targeting Telugu-speaking people and expanding to other states.

Cyberabad Police have urged people to stay alert and report cybercrimes by calling 1930.

UPI Payments to Get Faster from June 16

UPI Payments to Get Faster and More Secure from June 16

Starting June 16, UPI payments in India will become quicker and safer. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced that UPI transactions like money transfers and status checks will now be completed in just 10 to 15 seconds, instead of the current 30 seconds.

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a mobile-based system that allows instant money transfers between bank accounts. NPCI aims to improve the user experience by reducing the waiting time for these transactions.

Additionally, checking your account balance through UPI apps will be limited to 50 times a day. Until now, there was no limit. This change is being made to reduce the system load and maintain performance.

To increase security and avoid fraud, UPI apps will now only show the actual beneficiary’s name when sending money. Also, users will no longer be allowed to change the recipient’s name inside the app. These rules must be followed by all UPI apps by June 30.

In May alone, UPI saw a 33% rise in transactions, reaching 1,868 crore, with a total transaction value of ₹25.14 lakh crore. With these updates, NPCI hopes to make UPI even more efficient and trustworthy for users across India.

Students Face Delays in Getting Certificates

Telangana: Students Struggle to Get Certificates as MROs Delay Processing

As the new academic year begins, students in Telangana are finding it difficult to get important certificates needed for college admissions, reservations, and scholarships. These include income, caste, OBC, and residential certificates.

Despite having specific timelines for issuing these documents, Mandal Revenue Offices (MROs) in Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Jangaon are facing delays. A total of 15,101 applications are still pending, according to data from local collectorates.

This delay is affecting many students. M Sai Krishna, a student waiting to attend engineering counselling, said he applied for his certificates online but was still asked to submit physical copies at the MRO office. Even after doing so, the status of his application showed “pending,” and he had to visit the office multiple times for updates. He also claimed that some people are paying middlemen to get their applications approved.

Revenue officials admitted that they are overwhelmed, especially in urban areas, with hundreds of applications coming in every day. They said that each application requires field verification, which takes time. A lack of staff and involvement in other government programmes, like the Bhu Bharathi Revenue Sadassulu, is also causing delays.

Warangal District Collector Satya Sharada said they are aware of the issue and will work to speed up the process of issuing pending certificates.

Hyderabad Youth Attacked, Forced to Chant Slogans

Tension in Hyderabad: Youth Attacked, Forced to Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

Hyderabad, June 11 – Tension broke out in the Raidurgam area under Cyberabad police limits late on Tuesday night after a group of Muslim youths were attacked by men allegedly linked to right-wing groups.

The incident happened near a hotel around midnight on June 10. According to the victims, a group of men carrying sticks and swords entered the hotel, damaged the pantry and furniture, and then chased and beat up some Muslim youngsters. The attackers also forced them to chant “Jai Shri Ram.”

After hearing about the attack, more young men from Shaikpet arrived at the scene and raised slogans in protest. The injured victims believe it was a planned attack meant to disturb peace in the area and said that people were targeted because of their religion.

The police responded quickly and formed special teams to track down those responsible. This incident adds to a recent series of similar events in Hyderabad.

Just two days earlier, on June 8, a cattle transporter was attacked in Attapur. In another case the same day, some people burned a vehicle carrying animal waste in Jalpally, a day after Bakrid.

In NM Guda, Attapur, members of a group called “Kataar Gau Raksha Dal” stopped an auto-rickshaw with two bulls, assaulted the driver, and damaged the vehicle. This led to clashes between two groups, and when the police tried to control the situation, stones were thrown, injuring three officers.

The police have registered multiple cases in Attapur and Mailardevpally and are searching for others involved. On Monday, they arrested 25 people connected to the violence related to animal sacrifice during Eid ul-Adha.

Many activists say that violence in Hyderabad has increased around Bakrid this year. They blame the rise of right-wing groups and claim the current Congress government is failing to keep the situation under control.
