Hyderabad Tragedy: 2 Techies Die in Late-Night Crash After Party

A fun night out turned tragic in Hyderabad when two young techies lost their lives in a car accident. The victims, Bhatula Bhargav Yadav and Chethi Varshith, both 23 years old, died early Sunday morning after their car crashed on the way back from a party.

The group of friends, all software engineers, had gathered at Vihari Nature’s Nest farmhouse on Friday night to celebrate. The party went on till about 2:30 am. After the celebration, the friends headed out in two cars — one driven by a hired driver and the other by Praveen, a friend from the group.

According to reports, the group went looking for food after the party but couldn’t find any open eateries. While returning, the car driven by Praveen, a Hyundai Creta, lost control near Edulabad. The vehicle hit two electric poles and then a tree.

The crash was so intense that the rear passenger door flew open, and Bhargav and Varshith, who were sitting in the back seat, were thrown out. Sadly, both of them died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Police said the crash was likely caused by rash and drunk driving. Liquor bottles were found at the farmhouse, and samples from Praveen have been collected to test for alcohol. The families were informed around 3 am after the second group of friends alerted the police.

A case has been registered against Praveen for causing death by negligence under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to others who were present at the party.

Young Man Loses ₹6,800 in Online Vape Scam in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A young man, new to Hyderabad, lost ₹6,800 in an online scam while trying to buy a vape — a product that is banned in India. He has now decided to file a police complaint and is warning others not to fall for similar tricks.

According to a post he shared on Reddit, the young man felt peer pressure to try vaping and looked online for options in Hyderabad. He found an image with contact details through a Google search and then contacted the seller. The conversation soon moved to WhatsApp.

The seller sent pictures of different vape flavours, and the man chose “blueberry ice.” He was asked to pay ₹1,800 through a QR code, with a promise that the vape would be delivered in 30 minutes.

Soon after, the seller claimed there were “security concerns” and asked for another ₹4,999, saying it would be refunded. Worried about losing his first payment, the victim sent the second amount too.

The scammer kept calling and assuring him that everything was fine. Later, he demanded another ₹4,999, saying the previous payment got “stuck.” That’s when the young man realized he was being scammed.

Around the same time, an SBI bank representative called him and said the account he had paid into was marked as fraudulent. They advised him to file a complaint immediately.

The victim tried to report the scam online, but the websites kept crashing. He said, “My monthly pocket money is gone. I can’t survive in this city without it.”

He has shared the scammer’s phone number and location online to alert others and plans to lodge a police complaint. In total, he lost ₹6,800.

Massive Gachibowli Flyover to Ease Hyderabad Traffic

New Flyover in Hyderabad to Reduce Traffic at Gachibowli

Hyderabad is about to open a major new flyover at Gachibowli to help reduce traffic on one of the city’s busiest roads. This will be the first third-level flyover in the city and is expected to open in the first week of June 2025. It connects the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Kondapur and aims to make travel smoother for thousands of people.

A Special Design

The flyover is 1.2 kilometers long and has six lanes. It was built at a cost of ₹178 crore under the city’s Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). What makes it special is its three levels. The new flyover (Level 3) is built above two older flyovers already at Gachibowli—one at Level 1 and another at Level 2. This makes it a unique structure in the city.

Solving Traffic Problems

The Gachibowli junction often has heavy traffic because it connects key areas like the IT corridor, Financial District, Hitec City, and the airport. The new flyover will help vehicles move faster between ORR, Kondapur, and Hafeezpet, cutting down travel time and avoiding traffic jams.

Officials say it will be especially helpful for people who travel daily and for those heading to the airport, Hitec City, or the Financial District.

Part of a Bigger Plan

This is the 23rd flyover built under the SRDP and the 37th structure overall. The plan includes building 42 flyovers and other road improvements across the city to reduce traffic and avoid traffic signals. The Gachibowli flyover is one of the biggest projects in this plan.

The city is also working on other projects like railway overbridges in Falaknuma and Shastripuram to improve travel further.

Building for the Future

The government is investing in new roads, flyovers, and underpasses to prepare for Hyderabad’s fast growth. This is part of a larger plan called the H-City project.

Opening Soon

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will open the new flyover soon. Officials believe it will bring great relief to many commuters and support Hyderabad’s growth as a major tech and business city. Final construction work is being completed to ensure the flyover is ready on time.

LPG Price Cut: Commercial Cylinder Rates Reduced ₹24

LPG Price Cut: Relief for Businesses as Commercial Cylinder Rates Drop

Oil marketing companies in India have announced a significant reduction in the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders, providing much-needed relief to hotels, restaurants, catering businesses, and other commercial establishments that rely heavily on LPG for their operations. Effective June 1, 2025, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has been slashed by ₹24, marking the third consecutive monthly reduction in rates.

New Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices (as of June 1, 2025)

City New Price (₹)
Delhi 1,723.50
Kolkata 1,826
Mumbai 1,674.50
Chennai 1,881
Hyderabad 1,969
Vijayawada 1,880.50

Prices vary across cities due to local taxes and transportation costs.

Background and Recent Price Trends

  • Third Consecutive Monthly Cut: This latest reduction follows a ₹14.50 cut in May and a substantial ₹41 cut in April. The consistent downward trend reflects falling international crude oil prices and favorable market conditions.
  • No Change for Domestic Users: The price revision applies exclusively to commercial cylinders. Domestic LPG cylinder prices, used for household cooking, remain unchanged at ₹853 for a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi.
  • Revision Mechanism: Oil companies adjust LPG prices at the start of every month, basing their decisions on international fuel prices, exchange rates, and other market factors.

Impact on Businesses

The reduction in commercial LPG prices is a direct boon for sectors like hospitality, food service, and small businesses, where LPG is a major operational cost. For restaurants, hotels, and catering services, even a modest cut can help manage expenses and potentially improve margins or allow for more competitive pricing.

“This decisive step will have a direct impact on services like hotels, restaurants, and the food industry, where this gas is used on a large scale. This will reduce the operational costs of these businesses, allowing them to provide better services to consumers. This is a welcome economic stimulus

Why Prices Are Falling

The cuts are largely attributed to a drop in international crude oil prices, which reached an average of $64.5 per barrel in May 2025—the lowest in over three years. India’s LPG pricing policy is closely linked to global crude prices, with regular monthly adjustments reflecting shifts in the international market.

Broader Economic Context

  • Commercial vs. Domestic Use: While about 90% of LPG in India is consumed by households, the commercial and industrial sectors account for the remaining 10%.
  • Aviation Fuel Also Cheaper: Alongside LPG, the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) was also reduced, offering relief to the aviation sector.

Outlook

As global oil prices remain subdued, further reductions or stability in commercial LPG prices could continue, offering ongoing relief to businesses. However, the volatility of international markets means businesses must remain vigilant about future price changes.

In summary: The June 1 price cut for commercial LPG cylinders is a welcome relief for Indian businesses, especially in the hospitality and food service sectors. With three consecutive months of reductions, operational costs have eased, reflecting favorable global oil trends and providing a modest but meaningful economic boost.

Why are LPG prices decreasing for commercial cylinders but not household ones.?

LPG prices for commercial cylinders are decreasing while household (domestic) cylinder prices remain unchanged due to differences in pricing mechanisms, frequency of revisions, and government policy.

Key Reasons for the Divergence

  1. Market-Linked Pricing for Commercial LPG
  • Commercial LPG cylinder prices are revised monthly and are closely linked to international crude oil prices and broader market dynamics.
  • Recent reductions in global crude oil prices (with the average crude price dropping to $64.5 per barrel in May 2025) have led to consecutive price cuts for commercial cylinders.
  • Oil marketing companies pass on these changes directly to commercial users, resulting in regular fluctuations—both up and down—in commercial LPG rates.
  1. Government Control and Subsidy for Domestic LPG
  • The price of domestic LPG cylinders (used in households) is regulated by the government, which aims to shield consumers from frequent price changes and inflationary pressures.
  • Domestic LPG prices are not revised as frequently as commercial ones and often remain steady for longer periods, unless there is a significant policy decision or a major shift in global prices.
  • The last revision for domestic LPG was a ₹50 increase earlier in the year, and prices have been kept unchanged since then.
  1. Policy Objectives
  • The government prioritizes stable and affordable cooking gas for households, especially given that about 90% of LPG in India is consumed by homes.
  • Keeping domestic prices stable helps manage household budgets and supports social welfare objectives, even if it means not passing on immediate market-linked reductions to consumers.
  1. Frequency and Basis of Revision
  • Commercial LPG prices: Revised monthly, based on international prices, exchange rates, and market demand.
  • Domestic LPG prices: Revised less frequently and often determined by government policy rather than just market forces.

Summary Table

Cylinder Type Pricing Mechanism Frequency of Revision Influencing Factors Current Trend
Commercial (19 kg) Market-linked Monthly International oil prices, demand Decreasing
Domestic (14.2 kg) Government-regulated Less frequent Policy decisions, social objectives Unchanged

Conclusion

The decrease in commercial LPG prices reflects the direct impact of falling international crude oil prices and market-linked pricing. In contrast, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged due to government regulation and a deliberate policy to protect household consumers from market volatility.

Patnagarh Parcel Bomb Case: Meher Convicted

Patnagarh Parcel Bomb Case: Odisha Court Convicts Ex-Professor Punjilal Meher After Seven Years

Patnagarh, Odisha — In a major breakthrough in the infamous Patnagarh parcel bomb case, a court in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Wednesday convicted former English professor Punjilal Meher for masterminding the 2018 attack that killed two people and severely injured a newlywed bride. The verdict brings closure to one of the state’s most shocking and complex criminal investigations.

A Chilling Crime That Shocked Odisha

On February 23, 2018, just five days after their wedding, Soumya Sekhar Sahu, a 26-year-old software engineer, received a parcel at his home in Patnagarh, thinking it was a wedding gift. As he opened it with his wife Reema and his 85-year-old grandmother Jemamani Sahu, a powerful explosion ripped through the house. Soumya and his grandmother died instantly; Reema was critically injured but survived.

Investigation Uncovers a Calculated Plot

The Patnagarh parcel bomb case initially baffled investigators. Over 100 suspects were questioned before attention turned to Punjilal Meher, a colleague of Soumya’s mother, Sanjukta Sahu. Meher had reportedly harbored resentment after being replaced by Sanjukta as principal of Jyoti Vikas College in Bhainsa.

According to the investigation, Meher began collecting materials during Diwali 2017, extracting gunpowder from firecrackers and learning bomb-making techniques online. He assembled the device, disguised it as a wedding present, and used a courier service in Raipur, Chhattisgarh—far from the crime scene and without CCTV—to anonymously send the fatal parcel.

Crucial Clue Leads to Arrest

In a twist, Meher sent an anonymous letter to mislead police by suggesting multiple suspects and a false motive. Investigators noticed that the language, phrasing, and font pointed to someone with a strong command of English—ultimately narrowing the suspect list. A subsequent search of Meher’s home uncovered material evidence linking him to the attack.

“All the evidence was circumstantial, and there were no eyewitnesses,” said IPS officer Arun Bothra, who led the case. “Still, we ensured a watertight investigation. Justice has been served.”

Court Delivers Life Sentence

The court found Meher guilty under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder, attempted murder, and provisions of the Explosive Substances Act. While the prosecution sought the death penalty, the judge ruled the crime did not meet the threshold of the “rarest of the rare,” sentencing Meher to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000.

Reactions and Legacy of the Case

Soumya’s parents expressed mixed emotions. “We were hoping for capital punishment, but we respect the court’s decision,” said Rabindra Sahu, the victim’s father. Sanjukta Sahu also acknowledged the painful closure the verdict brings.

The Patnagarh parcel bomb case will remain etched in Odisha’s legal history as a rare example of a meticulously planned crime driven by personal vendetta. It exposed vulnerabilities in rural courier systems and highlighted the importance of forensic and linguistic analysis in solving modern crimes.
