A 29-year-old woman named Mahalakshmi from Bengaluru was killed by her partner, Mukti Ranjan Ray, after frequent arguments over marriage. Mukti, 31, later took his own life by hanging from a tree in Odisha. Before his death, he left a suicide note confessing to the crime.

Mahalakshmi and Mukti had been in a relationship for some time, working together in a garment shop. Heavy Rains Flood Warangal: Traffic Disrupted

Severe Flooding Brings Warangal District to a Standstill

Heavy rains have severely affected daily life in the Warangal region, causing flooding in many areas. The continuous downpour since Saturday night has led to streams, canals, and lakes overflowing, especially in the Eturunagaram Agency area of Mulugu district. This has brought traffic between Eturunagaram and Warangal to a complete stop.

In the Warangal district, the rainfall average was 5.96 cm, but some areas like Nekkonda mandal experienced heavier rain, reaching 10.17 cm. The heavy rains have flooded homes in Kesamudram, Mahabubabad district, and cut off access to many villages as roads and culverts are submerged. In Chennaraopet, heavy rain caused the collapse of a Penkutillu, and a shed’s roof was damaged in Jalli village. Local authorities have cleared debris to provide a temporary detour for affected residents.

National Highway 163, which connects Hyderabad to Bhupalpatnam in Chhattisgarh, is flooded due to the overflowing Jalagalancha Vagu stream. Similarly, Katakshapur Lake in Atmakur Mandal is overflowing, disrupting traffic on the national highway.

In Mahabubabad district, floodwater from Ayodhya Lake has spilled into low-lying areas, including Tallapoosapally village. Several other lakes in the region, like those in Nellikudur, Maripeda, and Kuravi mandals, have also breached, causing more flooding and traffic disruptions.

The district administration is actively responding to the crisis. Mahabubabad District Collector Adwait Kumar Singh has ordered rescue operations in 51 low-lying villages and arranged food, water, and medical support for affected residents.

In Warangal, the heavy rains have led to a flood-like situation in several localities under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC). Roads were inundated, disrupting traffic in the city. Municipal authorities have warned residents in low-lying areas, like NTR Nagar and Sai Nagar Colony, to be cautious as floodwaters continue to rise. The Bhadrakali reservoir is also filling up rapidly, causing concern for nearby residents.

A control room has been set up at the Warangal Tahsildar office, and Special Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed. GWMC officials have canceled leave for their employees to ensure they are available for emergency duties.

Heavy rains have also caused major disruptions in other districts like Nizamabad, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar. Floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas, and in some places, traffic has come to a standstill due to overflowing rivers and streams. In Narayanpet district, heavy rain on Sunday morning led to significant waterlogging, with Damaragidda Mandal receiving the highest rainfall in the state at 11.3 cm.

Local administrations across these districts are on high alert, working to manage the situation and provide relief to affected residents.

Kolkata Rape-Murder: Mother-in-Law Reveals Dark Past

The mother-in-law of Sanjay Roy, who is accused of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, has spoken out about his violent past. She revealed that Roy had caused her daughter to suffer a miscarriage and had physically assaulted her multiple times. She also suggested that others might be involved in the crime, doubting that Roy could have acted alone.

Durga Devi, the mother-in-law, shared that her daughter’s marriage with Roy was troubled. She mentioned that things were good for the first six months, but then Roy’s violent behavior led to a miscarriage. She said that a police complaint was filed after Roy assaulted her daughter and that her daughter’s health continued to suffer afterward.

Durga Devi expressed her strong dislike for Roy, stating that he was not a good person and deserved severe punishment. However, she also indicated that she believes he couldn’t have committed the crime by himself.

The rape and murder of the trainee doctor have sparked outrage and protests across India, with many demanding justice and strict punishment for those responsible. The Supreme Court criticized the West Bengal government for its handling of the case, particularly the delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR) and the initial claim by the hospital that the death was a suicide.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now leading the investigation. They have been allowed to conduct a polygraph test on Roy and have conducted a 3D laser mapping of the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Additionally, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to look into allegations of financial irregularities at the hospital.

The Union government has also ordered the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to take over the security of the hospital, following a Supreme Court directive.

The case has drawn significant attention and raised questions about the safety of medical professionals in West Bengal.
