Home Guard Dies by Suicide in Uppal, Hyderabad Due to Financial Struggles

Hyderabad, October 18, 2024: A 32-year-old home guard, K. Ramana, tragically died by suicide at his residence in Chiluka Nagar, Uppal, on Thursday. Ramana, who had been working at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Punjagutta, reportedly took his life due to ongoing financial difficulties.

According to police sources, Ramana had been visibly distressed in recent days. On Thursday, his family found him hanging from a ceiling fan in his bedroom. Authorities are investigating further, but initial reports suggest that financial constraints were the main cause of his distress.

The incident highlights the growing issue of mental health struggles due to financial pressures. Family and friends have expressed their grief over the loss of Ramana, a dedicated officer, whose life was cut short by personal hardships.

On Sunday night, two unidentified men on a motorcycle went on a phone-snatching spree in Hyderabad. Here’s a breakdown of the incidents:

Around 3 am, the duo targeted Ananta Krishna in Sanathnagar, who was walking alone and snatched his mobile phone.
Later, at 5:30 am in Ameerpet, they struck again, taking Neelam’s phone. They continued their spree in Punjagutta, snatching Raghavendra’s phone before escaping.

In a separate incident at Alwal Hills Road No. 5, two people on a sports bike snatched a gold chain from a woman named Suvarna. Police said the perpetrators included a woman.

Rachakonda Constable Dismissed for Theft of Rs. 18.50 Lakh

A Rachakonda constable, Ballari Srikanth, has been dismissed from service after he was caught stealing Rs. 18.50 lakh from a cashier of a company in Punjagutta by claiming to be local police.

Srikanth, along with two other persons, had waylaid Pradeep and Shankar, who were carrying Rs. 20 lakh in a bag. On the pretext of vehicle checking, they took Pradeep into a car and stole Rs. 18.50 lakh from the bag before dropping him off.

On receiving a complaint from the victim, the Punjagutta police registered a case and began investigating. They later identified Srikanth and his accomplices and arrested two of them, including Srikanth. The third accomplice is absconding.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner DS Chauhan issued orders dismissing Srikanth from the service. Srikanth worked as a driver for an officer working in Rachakonda and had used an official car to carry out the theft.

The Punjagutta police are continuing to investigate the case and are hopeful of arresting the third accomplice soon.
