Congress Leader Revanth Reddy’s Real Estate Ambitions Draw Criticism

Revanth Reddy

TPCC president A Revanth Reddy’s plans to replicate the failed Amaravati land pooling scheme in Telangana have evoked stinging criticism from the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and rival parties.

Reddy’s proposal to pool 50,000 acres of land in Rachakonda to build a new city has been labeled as a “real estate broker’s mindset” by his opponents. They point to the disastrous consequences of the Amaravati land pooling scheme, which left many farmers landless and debt-ridden.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao mocked Reddy’s plans, calling him a “gold medal winner” for his involvement in the cash-for-vote scam. Reddy had earlier referred to his jail term for bribery as a “medal,” further fueling the criticism.

Reddy’s real estate ambitions have also raised concerns among farmers, who fear losing their land to corporate interests. They point to the fact that the Amaravati land pooling scheme was primarily aimed at benefiting real estate developers.

The TPCC president’s comments have also reignited the debate over land acquisition and development in Telangana. Critics argue that Reddy’s plans are nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to enrich himself and his cronies at the expense of farmers.

The BRS government, on the other hand, has promised to protect the rights of farmers and ensure fair compensation for land acquisition. They have also launched several schemes to support farmers and improve their livelihoods.

It remains to be seen whether Reddy’s real estate ambitions will gain traction in Telangana. The public’s response to his plans will be a key factor in determining the success or failure of his political agenda.
