Vada Pav Girl NOT Arrested: Delhi Police Clarifies

“Vada Pav Girl” Not Arrested, Clarifies Delhi Police

New Delhi, May 5, 2024: Rumors swirled online after a video surfaced showing Chandrika Dixit, popularly known as the “Vada Pav girl,” interacting with police officers. The Delhi Police have clarified that Dixit, who runs a food stall in Mangolpuri, was not arrested.

The video sparked speculation of an arrest, but officials confirmed Dixit faced no charges. According to reports, the video captured an argument Dixit had with local residents. The source of the disagreement seems to be a community feast she organized near her stall, which reportedly led to traffic congestion in the area.

There are also indications that Dixit’s stall might be operating without the necessary permits from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

This incident highlights the challenges faced by street vendors in balancing popularity with adhering to regulations.

Delhi Police Wraps Case Against Ex-WFI Chief

Delhi Police Concludes Arguments on Sexual Harassment Charges Against Ex-WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Singh: Legal Proceedings, Jurisdiction, and Witness Testimonies Unveiled

Background:
The Delhi Police has wrapped up its arguments concerning the charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and BJP MP. The charges are related to an alleged sexual harassment case filed by female wrestlers.

Court Proceedings:
The matter is currently at the stage of framing charges before the Rouse Avenue Court. The Delhi Police argued that incidents of alleged sexual harassment, whether occurring overseas or within India, are part of the same transaction, giving the court jurisdiction to try the case.

Upcoming Dates:
After considering the Delhi Police’s arguments, the court has scheduled further proceedings for January 20 and 23. The court will hear the complainants’ attorneys’ submissions on these dates.

Arguments Presented:
Jurisdiction: The Delhi Police asserted that the court has jurisdiction over the case, given that incidents of alleged sexual harassment are part of a single transaction.
Intention Requirement: The police argued that for the charge of sexual harassment, intent is not necessary; knowledge alone is sufficient.
Delay in Filing Complaints: The Additional Public Prosecutor contended that the case is not time-barred, citing Section 354 of the IPC with a maximum punishment of five years.
Victims’ Fear: The police claimed that the delay in filing complaints was due to the victims’ fear of jeopardizing their wrestling careers, as the sport is highly revered in their communities.

Accused’s Justification:
The accused, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, justified his actions by claiming to act in a fatherly manner while checking the breathing patterns of female wrestlers. The prosecution argued that this justification indicates an awareness of his actions.

Details of Allegations:
The case involves six female wrestlers who filed complaints against Singh, alleging sexual harassment in various locations, including overseas. The incidents include inappropriate touching during breathing pattern checks and compromising attempts.

Witnesses and Statements:
A total of 44 witnesses, including the victims, have been named in the case. Statements from complainants were read in court, describing incidents in Kazakhstan, New Delhi, Mongolia, Bellary Karnataka, Tokyo, and Jakarta.

Ongoing Proceedings:
This case was reopened as the predecessor judge handling the framing of charges was transferred. The court is now considering arguments regarding jurisdiction, the nature of the offenses, and the continuity of sexual harassment as a charge.

Upcoming Hearings:
On the next hearing dates, the court will hear the submissions from the complainants’ counsel. The case involves multiple incidents, both within India and abroad, making it a complex matter for legal consideration.

Parliament Security Breach: Chaos Erupts in Lok Sabha

Unprecedented Security Breach in Parliament Raises Alarms

A big security problem happened in Parliament today. At around 1:02 pm, during Zero Hour, two guys with smoke canisters jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber. The smoke was yellow, and it caused chaos. One guy in a dark blue shirt jumped over desks to escape, while the other sprayed smoke in the visitors’ gallery. MPs and security staff stopped them.

The Lok Sabha started again at 2 pm, and Speaker Om Birla said they’re investigating. He asked Delhi Police to help with the inquiry. Before the chaos, a Lok Sabha official was reading, and suddenly people were shouting to catch someone. Rahul Gandhi, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Anupriya Patel were there.

A pass from BJP MP Pratap Simha’s office was found on one of the guys. But no matter which MP’s office gives a pass, visitors must pass five levels of security.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram thought someone fell at first. He said it was a security breach, and the gas might be harmful. He wants a thorough investigation.

Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said it was a terrible experience, and they didn’t know the attackers’ target. They left immediately.

Outside Parliament, a man and a woman were detained with smoke canisters that exploded with red and yellow smoke. Delhi Police thinks these incidents are related. The man and woman are Amol Shinde, 25, and Neelam, 42.

This security breach happened on the 22nd anniversary of the Old Parliament Building terror attack. Earlier, PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the nine people who died in that attack. Serious questions are being asked about today’s security lapse.
