Historic Arts College in Hyderabad to Undergo Major Restoration

Hyderabad: The iconic Arts College at Osmania University in Hyderabad is set to regain its lost glory thanks to a major restoration project undertaken by the university administration.

The first phase of the project involves waterproofing the roof to stop water seepage, which has been damaging the interior of the building. The old APP membrane sheets are being replaced with a modern waterproofing system that is expected to last for decades.

Once the roof is repaired, the administration will move on to interior beautification works. This will include restoring defaced walls, broken window panes, and the chandelier at the central dome. The toilets will also be modernized.

In addition to the restoration work, the university is also installing a dynamic lighting system and a laser and sound show at the Arts College premises. This is in an effort to turn the college into a tourist spot.

The Arts College building is a heritage structure that was constructed in 1939. It represents a harmonious blend of the pillar and lintel style of Ajanta and Ellora, and arches of Indo-Saracenic tradition. The building has been the alma mater of many notable personalities, including former Prime Minister of India P.V. Narasimha Rao and former Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana.

The restoration of the Arts College is a welcome move that will help preserve this historic landmark for future generations. It is also a testament to the university’s commitment to its heritage and its students.
