Police Seize Rs 6.65 Crore from Karimnagar Multiplex

Karimnagar police conducted a raid on Prathima multiplex early on Saturday morning, reportedly seizing Rs 6.65 crore in unaccounted cash.

Acting on a tip-off, police entered the multiplex around 1:30 am and carried out a search operation. The multiplex is owned by relatives of BRS leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar, who is also known to use the multiplex for political activities.

The timing of the raid, just hours before the announcement of Parliament election polls, has raised questions.

According to Karimnagar Town Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Narender, they received credible information about hidden cash and seized the money based on that tip. The seized amount will be presented in court, and if the source of income is not established, the money will be withheld.

Nizamabad Gears Up for Peaceful Polls with Robust Security

Elaborate Security Arrangements Made for Polling Day in Nizamabad

NIZAMABAD, TELANGANA, INDIA – November 28, 2023 – Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the Nizamabad district in a bid to ensure that Thursday’s Assembly polls are conducted in a peaceful manner.

According to Nizamabad Police Commissioner Kalmeswar Shingenavar, as many as 3500 police personnel and 1200 central forces have been deployed to conduct the elections in a peaceful atmosphere.

Apart from this about 250 patrolling parties, Quick Reaction Teams (QRT), Striking Force, and Special Striking Teams have been formed and arrangements have been made for strict enforcement of the Election Code of Conduct, he said.

Following the campaign for November 30 assembly polls coming to an end at 5 pm on Tuesday, Section 144 had come into force in all the six constituencies in the district and more than 5 people moving together or assembling had been prohibited during the period, he said, adding that the Section 144 would continue till December 4.

Political parties and candidates would not be allowed to hold meetings and door-to-door campaigns during the 48-hour silence period before the polling day, he informed. Stringent action would be initiated against political parties and persons violating the Model Code of Conduct, he warned.

In addition to the security measures, the district administration has also made arrangements for the smooth conduct of the polls. A total of 1800 polling booths have been set up and 2000 polling officials have been deployed for the polls.

The district administration has also appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise peacefully and in large numbers.

Hyderabad, India – In a significant ruling, the Telangana High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by the Praja Shanthi Party, led by Dr. KA Paul, seeking directions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to allot a common symbol for their party. The court observed that the party’s failure to produce annual accounts, financial statements, and election expenses was a valid reason for the ECI’s rejection of their request.

Background

The Praja Shanthi Party, a registered political party since 2019, had applied for a common symbol of either a “helicopter” or a “ring” for the upcoming elections. However, the ECI rejected their application on the grounds that the party had not submitted the required financial documents.

The two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar upheld the ECI’s decision, stating that the petitioner’s case could not be considered due to their non-compliance with the ECI’s guidelines. The court further noted that the ECI’s rejection order was not challenged before the court, and therefore, they could not interfere with the ECI’s decision.

Reddy’s petition sought directions to the ECI for allotting a common symbol for his party. The court issued notices to the ECI and adjourned the matter.
