Static Surveillance Teams in Hyderabad Gear Up for Poll Duty

Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) in Hyderabad underwent training on Monday in preparation for their deployment across all constituencies from November 3. The teams will be working round the clock in three shifts to monitor election-related activities and prevent illegal spending and other violations.

MCC Nodal Officer and EVDM Director Prakash Reddy urged SST officers to be respectful toward citizens while conducting inspections. He also reminded them that their vehicles will be equipped with GPS tracking and CCTV cameras, and that all officers are required to register their names and locations on video while reporting to duty.

Reddy further asked officers to submit the cash and other items seized to the Returning Officers through SHOs, making sure that receipts are provided. As SST teams will record all the places and objects seized, anyone who is in the recording will be given a copy at a fixed fee.

Additional CP Vikram Singh Mann informed SST officers that gatherings and meetings are banned 48 hours before polling. He asked them to report any information about the presence of cash in someone’s house to Income Tax officials, but cautioned them against entering the premises themselves.

District Collector Orders Strict Checking at State Borders to Prevent Illegal Transportation of Money and Liquor

Nalgonda: District Collector and District Election Officer RV Karnan on Friday ordered strict checking at all state border integrated check posts in the district to prevent illegal transportation of money and liquor into the district. He said that the model code of conduct for the Telangana state legislative assembly elections-2023 has come into force and that officials of police, revenue and excise will be posted at the check posts to curb all illegal activities.

Karnan inspected the state border integrated check posts at Wadapally in Damaracherla mandal and Nagarjuna Sagar tailpond in Adavidevulapally. He said that the people would generally travel between AP and Telangana on Krishna water in indigenous boats at Adavidulapally and that special focus will be given to checking these boats.

He also said that flying squads have already started checking vehicles at strategic points in the district and that people should carry proof for transactions of money if they are carrying more than Rs 50,000. Otherwise, the money will be considered as unaccounted money and seized by the officials.

A grievance committee headed by Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer has been set up for release of seized money not related to elections. After examining the proofs, the committee will return the money to its owners within 24 hours. The details of the seized money of more than Rs 10 lakhs will be sent to the IT department after releasing it to its owners by the committee.

Karnan said that static surveillance teams will start work from November 3 and that Elections Observers (general, expenditure) will be deputed to the district by the Election Commission of India by that date.
