Khammam: A 22-year-old youth, who had returned home to celebrate the Sankranti festival, was found dead under puzzling circumstances in Khammam town on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as P Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Rajiv Swagruha Colony in Khammam rural mandal, had been undergoing software training in Hyderabad. He had returned to Khammam on January 12 to spend the festival with his family.

According to reports, Sanjay Kumar left home in the early hours of Monday to pick up his brother, Gnanasai, from the new bus stand. His brother was traveling from Hyderabad to join the family for the celebrations.

However, before reaching the bus stand, Sanjay Kumar reportedly called his brother, claiming his motorbike had been hit by a vehicle near a chicken shop in their locality. He later sent a voice message stating he was abducted by four individuals in an auto-rickshaw who had allegedly killed a woman and were threatening to kill him. Sanjay also shared his live location with his brother before his phone was switched off.

Family members, local residents, and police initiated a search after finding his abandoned bike near the NSP canal. Tragically, Sanjay’s body was discovered at the Tanikella NSP canal locks the following day.

The Khammam rural police have shifted the body to the Government General Hospital for postmortem. Inspector of Police Raju stated that investigators are reviewing CCTV footage for potential leads. However, there is currently no information regarding the alleged murder of the woman mentioned in Sanjay’s message.

The incident has left the local community shocked, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the death and the allegations of a woman’s murder. Investigations are ongoing.
