Khajaguda Rocks Getting a Makeover to Protect Them

Khajaguda: After more than a year, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is taking steps to safeguard the Khajaguda rock formation. Instead of fencing the rocks themselves, they’re planning to fence the road leading to the temple and the Dargah of Baba Fakruddin, along with Avatar Meher Baba’s cave. The southern approach road is also getting a gate and some fencing.

The gate was installed by religious groups who share the area on top of the hill. This place used to be a hotspot for people who came to drink, party, and leave behind a mess. They would even drive right up to the edge of the rock formation, which was not good for its preservation.

Ritwik Reddy from Save Khajaguda Rocks, who has been working with HMDA, said, “Fencing off the area is crucial. By blocking the road, we can limit access to hikers and people who want to enjoy the rock formations.”

A volunteer from the new temple on the hill added, “We should have a checkpoint at the entrance to prevent people with alcohol from driving up the hill. This is a sacred place.” Sadly, one of the rocks is now covered in broken liquor bottles.

When the gate was installed with three locks, some vandals tried to break in but failed. They damaged the fencing and gained entry. The temple volunteers used an earthmover to create a trench and block off the western part of the rock formation from vehicles.

Frauke Quader of the Society to Save Rocks emphasized, “Fencing the entire perimeter is the only way to protect the rocks. The government needs to take a strong stance on this. Fencing the path won’t be enough; it’s just a cosmetic solution.”

According to Ritwik Reddy, previous attempts to fence the area were abandoned due to resistance and legal disputes with property owners. The only successful fencing is near the Dargah on the southern side.

Khajaguda rock formation is valuable because of its unique geological features and age. It’s an important part of Telangana’s geological heritage. The Society to Save Rocks has even filed a petition in the High Court to ensure the rocks aren’t destroyed for roads, buildings, or offices.

Unfortunately, HMDA officials weren’t available for comment on these recent developments.

Hyderabad’s Tech Community Mourns After Three Tragic Suicides

Hyderabad (18 Oct) – In a somber sequence of events, the city of Hyderabad witnessed three separate incidents of suicide involving tech professionals on Tuesday. The heart-wrenching incidents have sent shockwaves through the tech community and beyond.

The first tragedy unfolded in My Home Bhooja, where 43-year-old techie Vishnu Vardhan, originally hailing from Guntur, took his own life at his residence. Vishnu had recently relocated to Hyderabad, where he was employed by a software company in Australia. He had been living alone in his flat for the past four months. Concerned friends, unable to reach him, decided to visit his apartment. Upon receiving no response, they resorted to breaking open the door, only to discover Vishnu Vardhan’s lifeless body. No suicide note was found, leaving behind a shroud of mystery surrounding his tragic end.

In another devastating incident, 26-year-old software engineer N. Venkata Sai ended his life at his rented apartment in Century Apartments, Asifnagar. At the time of the incident, he was alone, as his sister, N. Ramya, a first-year B.Tech student who typically shared the apartment, was away in her native place in Nalgonda district celebrating a festival. Ramya returned home, concerned by her brother’s unresponsiveness, and attempted to contact him. Worried for his safety, she reached out to his friends, who decided to break into Venkata Sai’s apartment. The grim discovery of his lifeless body further deepened the sense of loss and tragedy.

The third incident unfolded at a hostel room in Gowlidoddi, where another 26-year-old software engineer, I. Gandam, took his own life. His friends were asleep when the incident occurred. The hostel management, upon discovering the tragedy, promptly alerted the police, who, in turn, informed Gandam’s grieving parents in Krishna district. Once again, no suicide note was discovered, but authorities suspect a failed romantic relationship might be connected to this heartbreaking incident.

These tragic suicides have brought attention to the emotional and mental health challenges faced by individuals working in the tech industry. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of support and awareness concerning mental well-being, both in the workplace and within our communities. Our hearts go out to the families and friends affected by these devastating losses, and we hope this serves as an opportunity to open a conversation on mental health within the tech sector and beyond.

BRS rebel MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao likely to join Congress

Mynampally Hanumantha Rao announces candidature, likely to join Congress

Sitting MLA from Malkajgiri Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, who resigned from the BRS and rejected the party’s ticket to contest the ensuing Assembly elections, is likely to join the Congress shortly.

Rao has remained tight-lipped on his future plans, but State BJP leaders have openly said that he will not be allowed to join their party. Senior BJP leader and former MLC N Ramachander Rao said his party would not accept Rao as he had criticised the party leadership in the past.

“There is no place for Mynampally in the BJP. He has insulted our leaders and harassed our cadre,” he said recently, adding that Rao had “insulted” BJP national general secretary Bandi Sanjay several times, and hence there was no room for him in the party.

Meanwhile, Rao has said that a false campaign is being propagated that he was planning to contest from either Qutbullapur or Medchal constituencies.

“A vested interest campaign is being run that I might contest from Qutbullapur or Medchal constituencies but let me clarify that I will contest from Malkajgiri constituency,” he told the media at his residence in Dhulapally on Saturday.

Sources said that Rao is likely to join the Congress in the presence of either senior party leaders Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. He is expected to contest on a Congress ticket from Malkajigiri.
