TGSRTC Karimnagar Hired Drivers Protest Over Breath Tests

Hired Bus Drivers Protest Against Breathalyser Tests in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: Hired bus drivers of TGSRTC staged a protest at the Karimnagar bus stand on Saturday, claiming they were being unfairly treated by the corporation officials.

The drivers said that even though they did not drink alcohol, breathalyzer tests showed high alcohol levels. However, when tested at traffic police stations, the results were zero.

They also mentioned that one of their colleagues, Suresh, was removed from duty six months ago due to a similar issue. They accused RTC officials of purposely harassing hired drivers and said they would meet the corporation’s MD, VC Sajjanar, to discuss the matter.

On Friday, Suresh tried to set himself on fire in front of Karimnagar Depot-1, frustrated over not being reinstated despite multiple requests. Security personnel stopped him in time by pouring water on him.

Suresh had lost his job in September 2024 after failing a breathalyzer test. Even though he repeatedly requested to return to work, officials did not allow it, pushing him to attempt suicide.

Telangana Asks KRMB to Stop Veligonda Project in Andhra Pradesh

Telangana: The state’s irrigation authorities have asked the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to stop Andhra Pradesh from working on the unapproved Veligonda project and making additions to it. They are concerned that these new additions might divert water from the Krishna River beyond its intended area.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had previously objected to the unauthorized transfer of Krishna basin water to other areas. He asked the Union Minister for Jal Shakti in October 2020 to take action against this. The Union Minister also emphasized that water transfer between basins should only happen after addressing the needs within the basin first.

In May 2021, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti sent a letter instructing Andhra Pradesh not to proceed with the project until the detailed project reports were approved by KRMB and the Apex council. However, Andhra Pradesh has continued with the project despite these directions.

Telangana officials are worried that the Veligonda project and similar endeavors could harm their state’s projects, especially those that provide water to drought-prone areas and regions affected by fluoride. It could also affect Hyderabad’s drinking water supply.
