Disqualification Hearings Begin Against Four Telangana MLAs

Hyderabad, Oct 24: Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has started in-person hearings on disqualification petitions filed against four MLAs accused of switching parties, under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

The hearings are being held in the Speaker’s chamber, where lawyers from both sides are presenting their arguments. The Speaker is following a full-day schedule, and cross-examinations of four MLAs have already been completed earlier.

According to today’s list, the first hearing began at 11 a.m. with Kalvakuntla Sanjay vs T. Prakash Goud, followed by Chinta Prabhakar vs Kale Yadayya at 12 noon. After lunch, Chinta Prabhakar vs Gudem Mahipal Reddy was taken up at 2 p.m., and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy vs Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy at 3 p.m.

During the proceedings, the Speaker is examining evidence, affidavits, and arguments to determine whether the MLAs violated the anti-defection law — by either giving up their party membership or defying the party whip.

The process is nearing its final stage, and today’s back-to-back hearings are expected to move the disqualification cases closer to a decision.

BRS MLAs were present at the Assembly as the hearings continued, highlighting the political significance of the issue.
