A 43-year-old man in Telangana, India, was shocked to find that his voter ID card listed his age as 123 years old. The man, identified as Shiva Kumar, said that he had been voting in elections for over two decades, but had never noticed the mistake before.
Kumar discovered the error when he went to update his voter ID card. He said that he was initially amused by the mistake, but then became concerned about the potential consequences.
I was worried that I might not be able to vote in the next election if the mistake was not corrected,” Kumar said.
Kumar went to the election office to get the mistake corrected, but officials there were initially reluctant to believe him. They only agreed to correct the mistake after Kumar showed them his birth certificate and other documents proving his age.

An official at the election office said that the mistake was likely caused by a typographical error. The official apologized to Kumar for the inconvenience and said that steps would be taken to prevent similar mistakes from happening in the future.
Kumar’s case is not the first time that a voter ID card has contained an error. In 2022, a man in Uttar Pradesh, India, received a voter ID card that listed his age as 180 years old. And in 2021, a woman in Kerala, India, received a voter ID card that listed her name as “God.
While these errors are relatively rare, they can cause significant inconvenience and frustration for voters. It is important for election officials to take steps to ensure that voter ID cards are accurate and up-to-date.
