Warangal, Karimnagar Smart City Projects Moving at a Snail’s Pace
Warangal and Karimnagar, once chosen with big hopes under the Centre’s Smart City Mission, are facing major delays in their development works. Despite several years since the projects began, many key works are still incomplete, making them top cases of pendency in the state.
Officials admit that while some infrastructure upgrades like roads and streetlights have been finished, bigger projects such as integrated traffic systems, modern public spaces, and drainage upgrades are either stuck in paperwork or moving very slowly.

Residents say they are frustrated as deadlines keep getting pushed back. Many point out that dug-up roads, half-finished buildings, and pending beautification works are causing inconvenience.
The Smart Cities Mission was launched in 2015 to transform selected cities into modern, sustainable urban spaces. Warangal and Karimnagar were among the few cities in Telangana to be included, but with the slow pace of work, the grand vision still feels far from reality.
Local leaders have urged both state and central agencies to speed up the projects so that citizens can finally see the benefits promised years ago.
