Warangal Citizens Question Corporator’s Indore Trip
Warangal: Corporators of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) are facing criticism from residents over a “study tour” to Indore, which many believe was more of a family outing funded by taxpayers’ money.
With only six months left in their term, 56 corporators, along with some officials and family members, went on the trip. Ten corporators did not join, citing personal reasons. Indore — ranked India’s cleanest city — was chosen to study its waste management and urban planning practices.
Mayor Gundu Sudha Rani admitted that nearly ₹50 lakh was spent on the trip without informing the state government. The GWMC oversees 66 wards with a population of about 10 lakh.

During the tour, corporators visited Indore Municipal Corporation to learn about the city’s cleanliness and planning strategies.
However, residents and the Warangal Citizens’ Forum strongly criticised the move. They argue that corporators, so close to the end of their term, cannot implement any of these practices.
“This is nothing but a family picnic at public expense,” said M. Satish, a resident of Shiva Nagar.
