Toll Fees Slashed 50% on Flyover Highways

Travel Relief: Toll Fees Slashed by 50% on Highways with Flyovers and Bridges

New Delhi – In a big relief for highway users, the Central Government has reduced toll charges by up to 50% on National Highway sections that include expensive structures like flyovers, tunnels, bridges, and elevated roads.

This move will make road travel cheaper and more convenient for people across the country.

New Toll Formula Introduced

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has changed the rules under the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, to introduce a new toll calculation system.

Now, tolls on such highways will be based on whichever is lesser:

  • 10 times the total length of the flyovers/bridges/tunnels
    OR
  • 5 times the total length of the entire highway stretch

How This Helps Commuters

Example:
If a 40-km highway stretch is completely made of flyovers or bridges:

  • Earlier: Toll was calculated as 400 km (10×40 km)
  • Now: Toll will be calculated as 200 km (5×40 km)
This means toll fees will be reduced by half.

Previously, tolls were higher due to the high cost of building and maintaining these structures.

New FASTag Annual Pass from August 15

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also announced a new FASTag-based annual pass for private vehicles.

  • Cost: ₹3,000
  • Valid from: August 15
  • For: Cars, jeeps, vans (non-commercial vehicles)
  • Valid up to: 1 year or 200 trips, whichever is earlier

This pass is aimed at making highway travel smoother and more affordable for private vehicle owners.
