NEET Pressure: Lucknow Youth Kills Father

A 21-year-old man in Lucknow has been arrested for allegedly killing his father after repeated arguments over preparing for the NEET exam, police said.

The victim, 50-year-old Manvendra Pratap Singh, owned Vardhman Pathology. He was reported missing on February 20. During the investigation, police recovered his body from inside a drum at his house.

When police questioned his son, Akshat Pratap, he reportedly confessed to the crime.

According to police, Akshat was a BCom student. He had earlier studied Biology in Class 12. Officers said his father often pressured him to prepare for the NEET competitive exam, which led to frequent arguments at home. Akshat lived with his father and sister. His mother passed away in 2018.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikrant Veer said that on February 20, an argument broke out between the father and son over exam preparation. In anger, the son allegedly shot his father with a rifle, killing him.

Police said the accused then tried to hide the crime. He moved the body from the third floor to a vacant room on the ground floor. He later cut the body into pieces. Some parts were thrown near Sadarona village, while the remaining parts were kept inside a drum in the house. Police also recovered some body parts from the ground floor.

Senior police officers visited the spot after the body was found. A forensic team collected evidence from the house. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Family members were present when police carried out the procedure.
