Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh: In a move to strengthen the security of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh government has hired two new twin-engine helicopters. These modern aircraft will replace the aging BELL 412 VT-MRV, which has been in service since 2010.
The decision follows a proposal from the Andhra Pradesh Aviation Corporation Limited (APACL) to procure new helicopters on rent. This proposal was prompted by concerns raised by the DGP, Intelligence, who highlighted the Chief Minister’s Z+ security category and potential threats from various groups.
The new helicopters, stationed in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, will offer improved airworthiness and safety for the Chief Minister’s frequent travel across the state. The government awarded the contract to Global Vectra Helicopters, with a monthly rental charge of Rs 1.91 crore. Additional expenses for ground handling, pilot accommodation, and other logistics will be incurred.
