Discord in Warangal Congress: Minister Konda Surekha Left Isolated
Warangal: The rift within the Warangal Congress unit is becoming more visible, with Endowments Minister Konda Surekha increasingly sidelined by her own party colleagues.
At the Praja Palana Dinotsavam held on September 17 at the Warangal IDOC, the Minister was the only elected representative present. Other Congress MLAs and leaders skipped the event, even though they were listed as official guests. Instead, they attended the same celebrations at Hanamkonda, where Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy was the chief guest.
Party insiders believe this boycott was deliberate, as many leaders wanted to avoid sharing the stage with Surekha. Those present at Hanamkonda included MLCs Banda Prakash and Baswaraju Saraiah, MLAs KR Nagaraju and Donthi Madhava Reddy, along with Warangal district Congress president Errabelli Swarna.

The differences worsened after a clash between Surekha and MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy over the appointment of trustees for the Bhadrakali Temple Board. Following the spat, Reddy reportedly requested that Surekha not be included in the Hanamkonda event. As a result, Minister Srinivas Reddy, who was originally supposed to attend in Warangal, was shifted to Hanamkonda as chief guest.
The situation has led to speculation that leaders are even switching venues to avoid the Minister. Surekha, along with her husband and former MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao, is also known for making sharp remarks against party colleagues, which has further fueled tensions.
Party workers fear that this infighting between Surekha and other Congress MLAs in Warangal and Hanamkonda constituencies could harm the party’s unity and functioning in the region.
