Telangana: An audio and video allegedly showing a police officer from the Huzurabad division accepting a ₹3 lakh bribe have gone viral on social media, sparking controversy in Karimnagar.
The recordings suggest that the Circle Inspector (CI) accepted the bribe to prevent the registration of a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. However, the person in the audio questions why the case was still filed despite the payment.
The caller alleges that they placed the money in the CI’s office washroom, as instructed, and secretly recorded the incident using a pen camera. The caller confronts the officer in the audio, saying, “How could you register an SC/ST atrocity case even after taking ₹3 lakh?”
Local MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy has reacted to the viral footage, announcing plans to file complaints with the Director General of Police (DGP), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, and Inspector General (IG) against the CI, identified as Ravi.
Reddy criticized the police for engaging in corruption while in uniform, alleging irregularities in both the Jammikunta Circle Office and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) office. He called for strict action against the accused officer.
So far, no official response has been issued by the police, and the authenticity of the recordings has not been independently verified.
