SC Rejects Telangana Plea Against Harish Rao

Supreme Court Dismisses Telangana Govt Plea in Phone Tapping Case
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the petitions filed by the Telangana government in the phone tapping case, giving relief to BRS MLA and former minister T Harish Rao.
The apex court refused to interfere with the earlier order of the Telangana High Court, which had quashed the FIR registered against Harish Rao and former DCP Radhakishan Rao. The court said there was no fresh evidence to reopen the case.
The case began in 2024 after a complaint by Siddipet-based real estate businessman Chakradhar Goud, who alleged that illegal phone tapping had taken place during the previous BRS government’s rule. Based on the complaint, Panjagutta police registered an FIR.

The Telangana government has faced scrutiny over the allegations, raising concerns about governance and transparency in the region.
Harish Rao later approached the High Court, which on March 20 last year ruled that there was no evidence linking him to the alleged phone tapping. The complainant challenged this order in the Supreme Court, but that plea was also dismissed.
Despite this, the Telangana government again moved the Supreme Court, saying the investigation was still in progress and that Harish Rao needed to be questioned. However, the Supreme Court rejected this argument, stating that the High Court’s order was clear and well reasoned.
The Bench observed that without any new evidence, it could not interfere with the High Court’s decision, effectively closing the case against Harish Rao.
