Earthquake Today: November 4, 2023: A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, sending strong tremors across northern India, including the capital Delhi. The epicenter of the quake was located in Dipayal district in western Nepal, at a depth of 5 kilometers.

People in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Lucknow, and other cities in northern India reported feeling the tremors for several seconds. Many people rushed out of their homes and offices in fear.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage in India, but officials said they were assessing the situation.

Nepal is located in a seismically active region and is prone to earthquakes. In 2015, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal, killing over 8,000 people and injuring over 21,000.

Experts say that the earthquake on Saturday was likely caused by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The collision of these plates is what created the Himalayas and is also responsible for the frequent earthquakes in the region.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) in India has warned people to be prepared for aftershocks. The NCS has also issued a list of safety tips in case of an earthquake, including:

Stay calm and do not panic. If you are indoors, drop down under a sturdy table or desk and cover your head and neck with your arms.

If you are outdoors, move to an open area away from buildings and trees.

Do not use elevators.

After the earthquake, check for injuries and damage to your home or workplace.

If you see any damage, do not enter the building until it has been inspected by a qualified professional.
