Elderly Man Burnt Alive After Beedi Sparks Fire in Mancherial

In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old man from Thallapet village in Dandepalli mandal, Mancherial district, was burnt alive after his bed caught fire late on Wednesday night.

According to Dandepalli Sub-Inspector Tahseenuddin, the victim, Lakkakula Nagaiah, accidentally started the fire while smoking a beedi between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Police said he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Nagaiah reportedly fell asleep with the lit beedi in his hand, and the fire spread quickly to his wooden cot, killing him on the spot.

His son and daughter-in-law, who were asleep in another room, woke up after noticing smoke and a burning smell. They rushed to his room and tried to put out the fire, but Nagaiah had already succumbed to the flames.

His wife, Rani, filed a complaint with the police. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
