Newlywed Man Kidnapped and Assaulted by In-Laws in Eluru

A shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh has caused public anger after a newly married man was allegedly kidnapped, beaten and publicly humiliated by his wife’s relatives for marrying against their wishes.

The incident took place in Eluru district just days after the couple got married under police protection.

Family Opposed the Marriage

The couple, Sai Chand and Sai Durga, were in a relationship for nearly eight years. However, Sai Durga’s family did not approve of the marriage. With no support from her family, the couple approached the police and got married a few days ago with official protection.

While Sai Chand’s parents attended the wedding, Sai Durga’s family stayed away, showing their continued opposition.

Violence Recorded on Video

Soon after the wedding, Sai Durga’s relatives allegedly located Sai Chand and abducted him. A video that later went viral on social media shows him being dragged by his hair, tied to an electricity pole, and beaten in public.

The disturbing visuals led to widespread criticism and raised concerns about the safety of couples who choose to marry against family wishes.

Police Explain Possible Reason

Eluru Superintendent of Police Shiva Pratap Kishore said the attack appeared to be linked to differences in employment status between the couple.

He stated that Sai Durga’s parents may have opposed the marriage because she works in the postal department, while Sai Chand is currently unemployed.

Case Filed, Protection Given

Police have registered a case of kidnapping and assault and started a detailed investigation. Security has also been provided to the newly married couple.

SP Kishore said that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands and that strict action will be taken against those involved. Authorities have made it clear that violence in the name of family honour will not be tolerated.
