70-Year-Old Watchman Dies After Falling Into Lift Shaft in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A 70-year-old watchman lost his life after accidentally falling into a lift shaft at Babu Khan Estate in Basheerbagh on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Balaji, had been working as a watchman at the commercial complex. According to the police, he opened the lift door and accidentally fell into the shaft, resulting in fatal injuries. He died on the spot.
His body was shifted to the mortuary for postmortem. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

- March 12, 2025 – Asifnagar: A 4-year-old boy, Surender, died after getting trapped between the elevator’s grill door and the wall.
- March 10, 2025 – Sircilla: T. Gangaram (58), former CSO of the Telangana Secretariat, fell into a lift shaft and died.
- February 21, 2025 – Masab Tank: A 6-year-old boy, Arnav, died after getting stuck between the lift and the wall while entering.
- August 25, 2024 – Gudimalkapur: A retired pharmacist, M.S. Samiullah Baig (65), died after falling into an elevator shaft.
- November 24, 2024 – Chandulal Baradari: Six people were injured when a lift crashed from the sixth floor.
These recurring incidents raise serious concerns about lift safety standards in residential and commercial buildings across the city.
