Telangana Reserves College Seats for Locals

Telangana Ends Quota for Andhra Pradesh Students in State Colleges

Hyderabad: Starting next academic year, Andhra Pradesh students will no longer have a reserved quota in Telangana colleges for professional courses like engineering.

The Telangana government has issued an order ensuring that 85% of seats in professional programs are reserved for Telangana locals. The remaining 15% will be open to all, but Telangana locals can also compete for these seats.

Students who have lived in Telangana for 10 years (excluding study periods outside the state) or whose parents meet this residency requirement can apply under the unreserved category. Children and spouses of government employees working in Telangana are also eligible for these seats.

This change follows the end of the 10-year common admission policy between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which was mandated under the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014. Previously, both states allowed students from either region to compete for 15% of available seats.

Now, with this policy shift, Telangana is prioritizing its own students for higher education opportunities.
